Anyway, for the most part, auto updaters are not spyware; auto updaters just update the software automatically. There are, obviously, exceptions, but for the most part this is true. According to the EULA posted, information is sent (such as build, OS, etc), but aren't associated with you. Also, because of the way most auto updaters are set up, you can choose to do the update, or choose not to do the update. Spyware, on the other hand, do not give you a choice.

I'm not talking about the updater, which is a seperate issue ( which is frankly STILL bad enough in its own right). There were many problems with the updater including the ability to FORCEFULLY reinstall itself. Not to mention that it was HARDER to remove than most viruses.
Here's what was once in the EULA (since been changed after they were burned for it):
"...give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and nonexclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services."
lol? First of all, why do they have ACCESS to the contents of my screen in the first place?
Secondly, to address the claim someone mentioned that google collects usage statistics anonymously: do you realize how oxymoronic that is? How "anonymous" is a bank account and password? Google Chrome DOES collect keystrokes. This has enourmous potential for abuse.

The EULA was updated because it was a generic EULA they use for internal services like Google Earth. The change was simply because it wasn't caught in the initial release. Google makes mistakes, but you are taking that way out of proportion.

No, you haven't given single it-is-spyware proof. Name one piece of software that updater downloads that actually IS spyware. Ups, you can't.
All you did is to spread FUD.
PS: By your definition, Firefox is spyware too because it has automatic updates.

Yes I have. You keep completely ignoring what I'm saying, and I keep telling you you need to learn how to actually read. I've said quite explicitly that the updater is a seperate issue.

To be more clear, the problem is not that they would actuallytry to steal someone's copyrighted works, it's that they CAN. Google chrome keylogs and google has access to everything you do on google chrome (and honestly, who really knows if it is JUST google chrome?). If you don't believe this is "spyware" ... fine. Maybe I was a bit hasty in calling it such, I guess.

In related news: Firefox is spyware, because it sends your keystrokes somewhere if you use search widget.

Here's a tip. If YOU feel that it is going to harm YOUR computer... Log all your pron viewing habits... Whatever... JUST DONT USE IT.
No need to go on baseless rants on a forum about it.

I tried it when the BETA first came out. I thought it was too buggy so I stopped using it. I was thinking of getting CHROME again if they fixed the bugs.
